During the recent presentation on Argentina author Jeanine Brownrigg introduced her recently published book Pioneering Spirit, An Anglo-Argentine Story of My Ancestors, My Mother and Me.

Dash Arts, a charity partially funded by Arts Council England, has released a fascinating podcast about El Pacto del Olvido – Spain's 'pact of forgetting' the thousands of crimes suffered under Franco's dictatorship. The podcast's host speaks to filmmakers Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar about their documentary The Silence of Others, which reveals the struggle of Franco's victims as they seek justice.
As we cannot currently present our usual programme of monthly meetings at Fratton Community Centre, the payment of membership subscriptions is suspended until further notice. We will automatically re-enrol 2019 2020 season members for the 2020 2021 season, so for them no action is needed. Members new to the Society will be most welcome and are asked to enrol using the Membership Application Form.
Until Government guidance permits us to meet at Fratton Community Centre we are planning to offer our programme of monthly talks on-line using Zoom where speakers are happy with this arrangement. As the situation develops, further details will be given on our Meetings page.
We are delighted to tell you that our President Emeritus, Professor Patrick Williams, has been made a member of the Spanish Real Academia de la Historia , an august body founded in the 1730s. We have congratulated him on behalf of the Society, but will be very happy to forward to him any personal emails that members may wish to send.
